Ortlieb Back Roller Plus waterproof panniers are terrific, expedition-quality rear panniers with a roll-top closure. These bags are made of lightweight Cordura fabric and offer a large carrying capacity.

The QL2 mounting system with Quick Lock retractable hooks make loading and unloading a quick and easy transition. Loving the Plus fabric, although not the Cordura/waterproof liner I was expecting that is typical of messenger bags. The welded seams and the waterproof coating make the panniers very lightweight, albeit flimsy and somewhat awkward when reaching in if you are not holding the bag upright with your other hand. QL2 system is great, although I never tried the QL1 system so cannot compare. Doesn't seem like much difference though if you are using the panniers on the same rack and do not need to quickly adjust the hooks. The bottom stabilizer hook is nice for my rack with a 3rd dog-leg, but I almost had to unscrew the whole assembly to place the hook on the top half of the ellipse. Ended up not having to, seems like it would have been a headache. Wishing there was a carry handle that was not attached to the hook-system, the shoulder strap tends to get all twisted due to the roll-top nature of the bag. More of a critique of the Back Roller in general, and not necessarily the Plus model.

Looks a lot messier in actual use than it does in the photo. Easy to attach as long as you do not have to use the upper of the two anti-sway runners, in which case you will have a major project ahead of you.

The Back Roller Plus has its plusses and minusus. The plusses: - Rock solid construction (so far) - Awesome design - Amazingly smooth attachment and removal. The minuses: - The bags could be a bit bigger. They fit my laptop and some gym gear, but I am worried about fitting my sleeping bag and tent for bike camping. - The waterproofing is sticky. The vinyl material is a bit sticky which makes packing the panier less than smooth. Overall a solid set of bags for me, but could use some improvements.

Great waterproof bag. Large enough for touring, but can be rolled small for commuting. Mounting system is a snap. Rolling the top can take some time getting used to. Having no small pockets can be a pain, but just use smaller bags to organize things. Not really compatible with trunk bags because of the mouting system. Overall a great bag that should last.
