A great bag that lives up to,it's reputation with long distance cyclists. They hold a lot, they stay dry with the roll top feature, and they're pretty lightweight. Small gripes - they can be awkward to load and clip onto the Tubus rack when full, because the rear top clamp does not clear the Tubus rack tubing where it's doubled up. The other gripe is that the bags get pretty fat in profile when loaded up which creates noticeable drag when riding with any headwinds. I'd prefer a slimmer profile and a longer bag to make up for the space.

GREAT bags! Very easy ON and OFF the bike. Bought two pairs - for my wife and me. They were put to the test much earlier than expected as we were forced to ride 15 miles in an unexpected downpour the first day of our four day - 150 mile trip on the Great Allegheny Passage. Everything inside the bags stayed perfectly dry as we got soaked and dirty. Had to hose off everything when we finally arrived at the B&B and the bags came out looking like they just came out of the box. Adjusting the bags for each bikes took a bit of time but the great thing is that once they are set up, they stay that way. Then it's easy on and off. A great choice!

I ordered a set of Ortlieb panniers, and discovered that the left side of each pannier, contained uneven stitching. If the defect was just on one pannier I could deal with that, but both panniers contained defects. Moreover, if the product was made in China, I would be more apt to disregard "product control". Frankly, most people would not expect a German made product to contain such defects. Anyway, I was informed by a Bike Bag Shop representative that Ortlieb USA , did consider the defects with my panniers to be defects... What is the lesson here? Sometimes it is best to shop local!!!

I'm very pleased with the purchase. The mounting is very flexible and fit quite nicely on the generic rack the LBS installed on my MTB. Have not had them out in the rain, but the construction gives me confidence they will keep my stuff dry.

I love these Ortlieb Paniers. I have had them for three weeks and have used them for my daily commute as well as fun trips, carrying the bag around off the bike. If you plan to do this often, you should get a panier that doubles as a backpack. The shoulder strap on these is helpful, but for longer times of carrying the bag you'll want a better system to carry the bag, especially if it's heavy. I usually ride with just one panier and find that that works fine unless it is very heavy, then you'll want to balance the load. I love the color and have found that the white is easy to clean. The reflector patches on the side are extremely bright and do a great job. I do wish they had a little outside pocket for last-minute additions such as keys, but overall i'm very happy with them.

Am writing immediately after installation so I can remember all the little things. Tips help save time and save frustration. Positioned the QL1 hanging hooks snugly between the crossbars of my rack, bag slid away from potential bumping when pedalling. The lower corner of each pannier is now resting 2-3 inches forward of the rear axle. It was easier inserting the reduction pieces in the hooks while sitting and opening the hooks with my foot and pushing in those adapters (rib up). The shoulder straps seem more useful for commuting/shopping than for touring. Weather permitting, not rolling the top would allow great storage for groceries or whatever. The strap with the 'pad' slipped away fits in the plastic doodad , lower front. Still pondering the proper placement of the hooks on the lower rear of the panniers. When used for touring with the panniers less than jammed full, they (after back rolling) can be level with the top of the rack yield a level platform for whatever you want. The design is very good. They are very easy to attach and remove. My old panniers, though smaller and not waterproof, were the essence of simplicity. By all accounts, I expect to be equally pleased with the Ortliebs .

My husband and I each got a set of these recently. We absolutely love them. They are completely waterproof, and the quick release feature is amazing. No more frigging with bungees and clips. He has the wave design and I got the splash - both are white with colored design and we are quite impressed with how clean they stay. Been commuting in pretty nasty sludge along the streets and the white is still white!!

Got these panniers for my 6 mile per day commute in the rainy northwest. They are just what I wanted. Easy to adjust to my bike rack, large enough to hold a days worth of food as well as clothes for work and my rain and cold gear. Everthing stayed dry when i rode home last night in a downpour. Would definitely recommend to any commuter.

The bags great. I've owned one pair for about 2 years and this pair I bought as a gift. They are a great size and roll down to a smaller size if preferred. They kept my stuff completely dry during a two month tour during the rainy season in the tropics. Now I use them (or usually just one at a time) for my commute to work or to the store or market. I have used them roughly, and they still look and function great. I would highly recommend them. Bike Bag Shop also was great. My order arrived before I expected it.

Ortliebs are the real deal. I moved from my Topeak trunk bag 20liters to a set of Back Rollers 40liters. The gear/clothes I need to carry in the winter months of commuting in Kansas City often had my Topeak busting at the seams until it literally did. I can't imagine running out of room now. I can easily toss in a case of beer on the way home now too! With the Topeak I never liked having to mess with a rain cover because you had to guess on the forecast and in the Midwest and that is close to impossible. With the Back Rollers being waterproof you are always prepared for whatever is thrown at you. I read that some were complaining of the lack of lots of little pockets. I think the one zippered pocket and the larger pocket behind that is plenty for what I need. I do also ride with a saddle bag for my wallet and keys, the things I need to get to quickly. But digging through a bunch of little pockets in a pannier is headache inducing. Great bags, get you some.

Very nice and versatile bag. I bought them for commuting and they hold everything I could need. We have also used them for bike camping and they haul a good load on the rear rack. A great feature is the quick release hooks on the top of the bag. They adjust easily to fit any rack you might have. I have used them on both a Tubus rack and a Nitto rear rack.

Pretty good panniers. Waterproof is very nice. But: I used mine for the first time yesterday, found a place on a trail where it wasn't dirt under the snow, but ice, and went down. I was going at about walking speed, and the impact wasn't enough to break the glass liner of the ancient thermos in the bag, but it broke one of the hooks on the bag. I'd recommend Ortliebs for people who either know for sure they will never fall, or who have another way to carry a pannier with a busted hook for the rest of whatever trip they're taking after a mishap, and then shell out seventeen bucks for new hooks (You can't buy just one.). Otherwise, I'd suggest bags with mounting systems that aren't quite so fragile.

I love my Back Roller Classics! After 19 years of commuter cycling, I can't believe I've waited so long to purchase a product like this. I live in a place that is extremely wet in the winter and these panniers can definitely withstand the harsh conditions. Thank you Ortlieb and Bike Bag Shop!

I purchased a set of front and back classics this summer for a tour to Ottawa area from Rochester NY in October and for two of the days I was blessed with heavy rain along with strong winds. Not a bit of moisture got inside the bags and I loved the ease with which they go on and off my racks. I like the strength of construction and feel they are a great value.

I recently purchased the Ortlieb Back Roller Classics from BikeBagShop.com. Bags were shipped and delivered in speedy fashion, thank you. I've been commuting with these bags for almost two weeks now. Computer and dress shoes go in one. Lunch and clothes go in the other. The bags are thoughtfully designed and manufactured to be of high quality. If something happened to these, I would certainly buy them again.

A classic, and rightly so. The newer Back Rollers now come with the more versatile oval bottom rack attachment. This is by far the easiest pannier to get on and off the rack - it takes just one second. The beauty of this is you don't have to think twice about removing the panniers in situations where security might be an issue. Just lift by the handle, and they are off. Simply place them on the rack and they are back on. No fiddling with straps, buckles or clips. Be careful not to put anything even slightly damp inside - they are so waterproof that even the smallest amount of moisture will be locked in and get everything damp inside. Because they have external pockets (there are two internal pouches for small items such as maps or wallets), you have to have a system to remember which pannier holds what item. Otherwise, its a pain to empty all panniers to search for one small thing. Once I got used to using the system, its the best pannier set I have ever used.

Overall the bags are great. Well made and completely waterproof. My only complaint is the shoulder-strap design. The attachment point for the strap is at the top lip of the bag. When you roll up the top to close it the strap gets tangled and twisted. It should have a swivel or attach in a different location.

Just got my Ortlieb Back Roller Classics today and I'm very satisfied. As you would expect from something made in Germany they are constructed of top quality materials, excellent workmanship, clever design (the quick release is very slick, just pull up and it pops off). I know the price was good because I Googled it and I got to buy them from some nice people that live in Flagstaff. Good deal!

I finally retired my trusty, 20 year old Lone Peaks. The Ortliebs are fantastic for touring! They swallow prodigious amounts of gear easily. My first tour with them was a very rugged mountain bike tour in Michigan's U.P., mostly on single track and logging roads. The Ortliebs were very stable with no rattles. They are equally good for commuting. The quick release feature is just that - quick. Heal clearance is outstanding. I can highly recommend these panniers to anyone!

Excellent product! The bags fit any rack I have tried attaching them to. The materials are durable... think 20 year lifetime kind of durability. They hold a lot of gear. I'd highly recommend these bags for cycle touring and then getting a set of the smaller ones(front roller) for commuting to work. Oh yeah, and the waterproofness is never in question. They seal the same way dry bags for river rafting seal.

I used these panniers for a long tour (about 5 days). These were amazingly waterproof, as it rained heavily on one day. Very sturdy, and compact. I think they are great value if you plan to use these for multi-day trips like I will. Bike trailer is also great to deal with, and very accommodating in terms of figuring out my needs. Would definitely do business with them again! Thanks! Don

I run Ortleib Backpacker Classics on a Tubus Vega rack. The strength, stability, and adjustability of both is their greatest feature. I ride 50cm, 700c frame and can avoid heel rub with a full load on this set-up. I commute more than I tour and the bags are a little awkward to carry by hand, but for touring the waterproofness and stability bring priceless peace of mind. Speaking of price both of these items are a solid value for being top of the line. Thanks Bike Trailer Shop. James Flagstaff, AZ
